Loro Piana fabrics for men
As a mill, Loro Piana has defined three essential areas for which it needs excellent raw material: furniture, knitwear and, of course, clothing. For this the brand sources its material from various parts of the world in order to make luxurious products for the domestic and foreign markets. Alongside cashmere and merino wool, this also includes cotton and linen.
Loro Piana cashmere
Cashmere from Loro Piana is one of the rarest and most luxurious fabrics of all and is the flagship of the brand. The raw material comes from goats in Mongolia and northern China, where the winters are harsh and cold and the summers dry. In order to survive, the goats have developed a particularly robust yet soft coat. The undercoat consists of a very fine hair that reduces the exchange of heat and therefore keeps them especially warm. The fabric made from this wool is incomparably soft and supple and is excellently suited to suits, coats and jackets.
Baby cashmere
Cashmere wool is in itself already one of the softest materials there is. It is surpassed only by the wool of young cashmere goats. These produce baby cashmere wool, which is available only in very limited quantities, since the young goats can be shorn only a single time in their lives, namely at the age of six months, before they get the coat of an adult goat. Only 30 grams of the raw wool can be spun, about one sixth of that of an adult animal. That makes baby cashmere a particularly luxurious material for your suit.
Tasmanian wool – Tasmanian®
This light wool fabric became extremely popular in the 1960s. It weighs only 250 grams per meter and is made from wool that comes from the small island of Tasmania off the Australian coast. To this day the term Tasmanian® has even established itself in Italian as a synonym for refined, very soft and flowing wool. The wool is particularly well suited to suits that are worn outdoors, as well as to warm coats.
Merino wool – Loro Piana Zelander®
Loro Piana Zelander® is made from a very robust fiber that comes from New Zealand merino sheep. Thanks to exclusive spinning and weaving techniques, this raw wool becomes a soft, resistant fabric that is made to withstand stressful situations too. That makes merino wool from Loro Piana a good choice for men's suits, especially wedding suits, but also for coats.
Pecora Nera® – wool from black merino sheep
Pecora Nera® is the result of 20 years of breeding the old sheep breed Black Merino. A New Zealand farmer is dedicated to preserving this breed and has restored the original color and texture of the wool through targeted breeding. Pecora Nera® is thus a very soft, light wool that is comfortable to wear and very durable. Loro Piana fabric made of Pecora Nera® varies in natural, dark shades and is distinguished by very good insulation against the cold.
Llama hair from the Andes – Loro Piana Vicuña
The refined vicuña wool is obtained from wild llamas in the Peruvian Andes. Since each animal yields only about 200 grams of raw wool every two years, vicuña is one of the most valuable fabrics for menswear. The llama hair is particularly soft and has good breathability, since it has to protect the animals from cold and wind at an altitude of over 4,000 meters.

The company has thus designed its own system line in which classic, natural fabrics are further processed into hyper-functional materials with the help of exclusive processing methods and additional, highly effective membranes. This makes possible a new generation of pleasant, soft fabrics that combine elegance and functionality.
The membranes developed by Loro Piana for men are applied to the reverse of the fabrics, where they reliably protect against wind, water and rain and make for a pleasant feel. These membranes are very thin, breathable and elastic, so that they are barely noticeable and allow maximum freedom of movement. Rain System®
These membranes make it possible to render any natural fabric water-repellent. The fabric is thus protected from rain and is also robust with regard to dust, dirt and stains, which visibly extends the life of the fabric.
Storm System®
The Storm System® goes one step further than the Rain System. It protects the fibers from all the elements and is waterproof, windproof and breathable. It was developed especially for fabrics that consist of only a single layer.
Green Storm System®
This system is particularly environmentally friendly and protects the fibers from environmental influences. It contains the Rain System® as well as a biological, hydrophilic membrane that consists of a unique polyurethane fiber and contains more than 50% degradable, plant-based materials. This makes fabrics waterproof and windproof, very breathable and biologically compatible.
Clima System®
This innovative system provides incomparable thermal protection. For this, refined natural fibers are combined with a membrane made of graphene. Graphene is the thinnest material in the world and is particularly good at retaining body heat. It guarantees a pleasant feel, since it distributes body heat eight times faster than other membranes from Loro Piana. Men who are out and about a great deal also benefit from the water- and wind-repellent membrane.
