Sourced from the fine undercoat of the Hircus goat. Loro Piana is one of the world's largest cashmere processors and guarantees consistently high-quality cashmere fabrics.
The foundation of Tasmanian®
Superfine merino wool
Super 150's: approx. 16 µm · Super 170's: approx. 15 µm
From Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania, this wool is the foundation of many Loro Piana classics. Super 150's and Super 170's are particularly fine: ultralight, breathable and fluid in their drape. They form the basis of the celebrated Tasmanian®.

Tasmanian®: the fabric that changed the suit.
Developed by Franco Loro Piana in the 1960s, Tasmanian® was the first suiting fabric to combine ultralight weight, durability and year-round wear. It takes its name from Tasmania, the island south of Australia whose superfine merino wool forms the basis of the fabric.
Today, Tasmanian® is made from Super 150's merino wool with an average fiber diameter of around 16 micrometers, at a fabric weight of just 250 grams per linear meter. It is breathable and crease-resistant, keeping its shape even through long days. In Italian, “Tasmanian®” has become synonymous with lightweight wool fabric.

Who is Loro Piana?
Loro Piana is an Italian company based in Quarona, founded by the Loro Piana family in 1924. Today it is regarded as one of the world's most respected producers of superfine wool fabrics and is part of the LVMH group.

What do Super 150's and Super 170's mean?
The “Super” number describes the fineness of the wool fiber. Super 150's corresponds to a fiber diameter of around 16 micrometers; Super 170's to about 15 micrometers. A lower micron count means finer, rarer wool and a more refined fabric.
What makes Tasmanian® different from other suiting fabrics?
Developed by Franco Loro Piana in the 1960s, Tasmanian® is regarded as the first premium suiting fabric for year-round wear. At around 250 grams per linear meter, it is particularly light, as well as crease-resistant and breathable. The wool comes from Super 150's and Super 170's selections.
