Gold leaf among dark olive groves: a scene from Umbria in the late afternoon light, when the sun is low and every leaf briefly lights up. The densest pattern in this selection. The ornament in gold and copper tones covers the dark green ground so closely that, from a distance, it creates a color of its own, neither green nor gold. In shiny silk it would shimmer; the matte Madder finish holds the surface together.

Dense patterns need a quiet setting. With a patterned shirt or a striking jacket, this tie looks busy; against a solid color, it becomes the one detail that draws the eye, and that is what it was made for. With navy blue, charcoal and brown, with a white shirt, and with flannel and tweed in autumn and winter.
